Benefits of Peel and Stick Flooring

A dream material for DIY décor on a dime, peel and stick vinyl flooring is an easy and economical way to update kitchens, bathrooms, entryways and mudrooms with the latest trendy looks. Here are some of the benefits of this versatile flooring solution.

Easy to Install

Peel-and-stick tile is easy to apply anywhere in your home, making it a quick fix for floors, walls and backsplashes. These self-adhesive tiles form a tight bond to clean, smooth subfloors, and can even be applied over existing vinyl flooring. You simply peel off the paper backing, position the tiles, and pressing them into place. There’s minimal mess and fewer tools involved than other flooring options.

Comfortable for Everyday Use

Peel and stick floor tiles are soft and comfortable underfoot, with a springy, padded layer that makes them easy to walk on and do everyday tasks. Most self-stick vinyl flooring has layers, which help insulate heat and maintain consistent temperatures throughout the seasons for year-round comfort. Stick-on floor tiles also have sound-absorbing properties, helping to buffer sound and reduce the noise of foot traffic between floors.

Easy Maintenance

Self-stick vinyl tile is easy to clean which makes it ideal for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping with mild soap is all that’s needed to keep your vinyl floor looking its best. Many peel and stick floor tiles have water-resistant properties to maintain their looks and longevity. Unlike conventional tile, it’s also simple to swap out old sticky tiles for new ones if they fade or become damaged over time.

Variety and Versatility

Peel and stick floor tiles come in a wide variety of colours, patterns, shapes and sizes to suit any style. This versatile option is available in all kinds of finishes that mimic the look and feel of marble, granite, mosaic and other specialty materials. Sticky tiles can also be used on a variety of surfaces beyond floors, from backsplashes to walls to fireplaces.

Durability

Peel and stick flooring is made of strong, flexible PVC material that stands up to heavy foot traffic from kids and pets. When installed properly and maintained well, it can last up to 25 years. Most vinyl flooring has a wear layer that resists spills, scratches and stains, so it retains its colour and vibrancy for years.

Easy to Replace

Peel and stick tile is as easy to remove as it is to install, making it ideal for temporary fixes or rental spaces. It is also cost-effective and can be installed over concrete, hardwood, plywood or existing vinyl.

Here’s How to Do it

Step 1: Remove existing floor and mouldings so you can lay tile flush with the walls.

Step 2: Clean and repair the subfloor, removing any dust and dirt and levelling uneven surfaces.

Step 3: Prime the subfloor with a seam roller and primer, making sure it’s clean, smooth and seamless for the best outcome.

Step 4: Measure and mark the centre of the room with perpendicular chalk lines, ensuring a straight edge so you can lay tiles along the line.

Step 5: Start by laying tile at the intersection of the chalk lines from the centre of the floor, using the lines as a guide and working outward toward the walls.

Step 6: Remove the paper backing and secure tiles to the floor firmly, removing any residual adhesive.

Step 7: After installing several rows, roll over the tiles with the seam roller to bond them in place.

Step 8: After laying all the full tiles, cut smaller tiles to fill out the perimeter of the room.

Step 9: Clean the tiles with an all-purpose cleaner and wet cloth to remove any residual adhesive.

Step 10: Replace baseboard trim and moulding and let dry for 72 hours.
