Four Easy DIY Projects to Keep Your Kids Busy This Summer

Keeping your family entertained this summer is simple with Home Hardware’s fun and interactive Summer DIY projects. We’ve compiled a list of our top four crafts that are sure to keep your kids amused for hours. Whether you’re looking for a simple project or something more elaborate, you’ll find inspiration to keep your family busy all summer.

1. DIY Planter Pot

It’s amazing what a few plants can do to bring life to a room. By getting your kids to decorate some clay planter pots, you’ll end up both entertaining them and beautifying your windowsill. Beauti-Tone Paint offers thousands of colours that are available in a variety of finishes, making crafting fun for all ages. Consider painting a geometric print, animal, or favourite flower. Then, go crazy decorating! Get out the markers, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and glitter – the more creative kids can be, the more fun they’ll have.

2. DIY Sprinklers

With this summer’s heat, DIY sprinklers are at the top of our bucket list. Here is a creative way to make your own sprinkler so your kids can stay cool all summer. Find a pool noodle, duct tape, scissors and a garden hose. Poke holes in a row, 2-3 inches apart. Tape one side of the noodle with duct tape so water can’t exit. Then, place your hose inside the other end of the noodle and secure with duct tape. Once completed, your kids will love splashing through it all summer long.

3. DIY Sandbox

Still reminiscing about your childhood summers? It’s time to bring back the old sandbox. Make your very own sandbox by visiting your local Home Building Centre location and speaking to one of our lumber specialists. All you need is wood, screws, landscape fabric, and sand. After adding toys, your kids will have hours of fun in the sand!

4. DIY Garden Box

A DIY garden box isn’t just trendy, it’s also great for teaching your kids how to grow their very own produce! To get started, head to your local Home Building Centre for wood, screws and vegetable soil. Build a basic wooden box structure and drill holes in the bottom for water to escape. Kids love playing in the dirt, so let them help you fill the garden box with soil and seeds. After that, all that’s left to do is watch your vegetables as they grow!
