Here’s How to Make a Trendy Pipe Shelf

This DIY pipe shelf adds storage and industrial style to any room. Made using simple plumbing pipe and basic shelves, it’s a budget friendly project that’s easy to execute. Our unit is a three-shelf design, but you can follow the same steps and adapt it to create a unit with four or more shelves.

Steps:

1. Assemble all materials for project.

2. Sand all sides of the pine planks. Wipe away dust.

3. Apply Clear Coat to all sides and let dry.

4. Start assembly of first shelf support side. Follow this order:

  • Attach flange to nipple to elbow to nipple to tee to nipple to elbow to nipple to flange.

  • Attach another nipple to the open tee.

  • Attach flange.

5. Repeat to build the second side of your shelf unit.

6. Measure where you want to position your shelf on the wall.

7. Mark position for top flange and secure to wall with a weight appropriate screw.

8. Secure the top flange to the wall using one screw only. Adjust the unit’s position vertically until it is straight using a level, then screw in place. Screw other flanges in place in the same manner.

9. Mark placement for other side of unit, making sure it is also level. Consider how far each plank will extend beyond the support.

10. Secure this side of shelf onto wall in the same way as side one.

11. Place pine planks on the pipe frame making sure each shelf is centred.
