ST. JACOBS, ON – January 23, 2023
– Home Hardware, Canada's largest Dealer-owned hardware, lumber, building materials and furniture home improvement retailer, and FlipGive, North America’s leading shopping rewards app for teams, have teamed up once again to help 500 youth sports teams across Canada get back in the game.

Presented by Home Hardware, the Play More Matching Grant provides youth sports teams with funding so they can continue to play the sports and games they love. In 2022, the Play More Matching Grant distributed $75,000 in funding to youth sports teams across Canada.
“Home Hardware’s Dealer-Owners have a long-standing history of being passionate and supportive of young athletes in their communities,” said Kevin Macnab, President and CEO, Home Hardware Stores Limited. “The Play More Matching Grant continues that legacy and reinforces our commitment to remove financial barriers so youth can participate in their favourite sports.”

The Play More Matching Grant was available in two programs: the spring/summer program which provided $25,000 in contributions from April 18 to July 8, 2022; and the fall/winter program which offered $50,000 in funding from August 8 to December 2, 2022.

“Families spend $30-$40 billion each year on their kid’s sports activities. It’s never been more expensive to keep your kids in sports and the impact of double digit inflation is putting an even tighter squeeze on families,” said Amy Halpenny, FlipGive CEO. “The Play More Matching Grants offered through our partnership with Home Hardware helps bridge this growing gap so families across Canada can keep kids playing the games they love.”

This is the second year that Home Hardware’s has partnered with FlipGive to host a matching grant program. Since the program’s inception in 2021, the Play More Matching Grant has helped more than 1,250 youth sports teams in Canada with $125,000 in matching grant contributions.

“The Tillsonburg U10 Twisters, Team Hughes, is a group of young female athletes that share a contagious enthusiasm, hardworking attitude, and big love for the game of Ringette. Many are new to the team this year. The girls are getting to know each other, on and off the ice, and are quickly beginning to bond as a team. They would love to attend a tournament in Niagara Falls in March and have been working hard to achieve their fundraising goals. This grant money will go towards tournament fees, lodging and team meals while on the road. Ringette has been dubbed the fastest game on ice. The sport is centered around teamwork with special passing rules. Kids learn to work together, celebrate, and cheer for one another all while establishing lifelong friendships.” – The Tillsonburg U10 Twisters, Tillsonburg, Ontario
“The Penetang Flames are a B Centre team that have refined their skills through excellence in coaching and team development to transform into a competitive AA team. Although we cannot play in the regular season AA Division, we will use this money to enter more AA tournaments where the team will be exposed to a higher level of competition required to grow as a team and individually. We will also be using the money to pay for hockey tournaments, exhibition games, and additional development and practices.” – Penetang Flames, Penetanguishene, Ontario
