The NHPA Young Retailer of the Year award celebrates the next generation of aspiring independent home improvement and paint retailers under the age of 35 across Canada and the United States. Honorees are chosen based on several criteria, including professional milestones, community engagement, continuing hardware industry education and extracurricular activities, and fall into one of three categories: multistore, under $3 million sales volume and over $3 million sales volume.
As a third-generation Home Dealer, Ryan officially took over leadership of the Richibucto location in 2017. Since then, he has led the store through a period of remarkable growth, increasing annual revenue by more than 120%. In 2023, Ryan expanded his operations by acquiring a second Home Building Centre location in St. Louis de Kent.
“Receiving this award from the NHPA is an incredible honour,” said Leger. “I’m proud to be part of the Home family and to serve the amazing communities of Richibucto and St. Louis de Kent. This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team.”
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Ryan is deeply committed to his community. Under his leadership, Richibucto Home Hardware supports annual scholarships for both Anglophone and Francophone schools, youth sports programs and local infrastructure initiatives—including a $25,000 gold sponsorship for the reconstruction of a community sports complex. His annual charity golf tournament has raised over $45,000 in support of the local food bank in just two years.

The North American Hardware and Paint Association (NHPA) Young Retailer of the Year program, now in its 29th year, identifies and promotes the next generation of aspiring independent home improvement, paint and decorating retailers. The program recognizes individual achievement by industry retailers aged 35 and younger throughout the U.S. and Canada. Honorees are chosen based on a number of criteria, including professional milestones, community engagement, continuing hardware industry education and extracurricular activities.
