Sheds are having a well-deserved moment! Remember the not so distant past when you cringed thinking about your backyard shed, that unsightly structure you hid behind carefully placed landscaping? Those days are over!
Craving to eke out extra space, be out of the house, or simply generate more elbow room, we have fallen in love with our backyard sheds. They have become our home offices, spare bedrooms, yoga or music studios, and workshops. Far from simple she-sheds and he-sheds, they are now the thing of dreams and the recipient of unlimited imagination and attention.
Do you have a
backyard shed just waiting for a transformation? What could you do with an
extra 100 sq. ft.? The great news is, there is so much you can do for very
little investment.
We turned our shed
into a highly functional yet very comfortable studio/office. To create a sense
of space and a look of fresh and clean, we painted the interior a simple white
Whipped WB048-1. For the exterior, rather than hiding our shed, we wanted to show
it off so we went with a dark navy Too Blue Hue C23-1-1533-3, an absolutely
beautiful and dramatic colour against the lush green of the yard. Inside we
added some simple, artwork, greenery and accent pieces. The result is a
comfortably blissful space to work and ruminate.
Whatever you decide
to do with your newfound space, have fun with the process. Sure there’s likely
going to be the need for some elbow grease and cleaner to create a fresh
palette to work with, but the result will be worth every bit of effort. And
heck, if you are transforming a long neglected space, you may even come across
some forgotten treasures in the process.
