Oscillating Tools

The versatility of oscillating tools have made them increasingly popular with DIY homeowners and contractors. They can saw, cut, scrape, grind, sand, polish and more. As the name suggests, an oscillating multi-tool’s cutting motion is different from a jig saw, circular saw, or reciprocating saw. Instead of spinning or sawing back and forth it has a flat metal blade that oscillates from side to side about 20,000 times per minute. This eliminates the grabbing or kickback common to other power saws. The compact size of an oscillating tool gives it access to small spaces other tools can’t go. It also allows the user to make very precise curved or straight cuts in corners and other tight spots.

Many types of oscillating tool blades and oscillating tool accessories are available. This includes carbide and diamond blades for grouting and masonry, scraper blades for removing stucco or adhesive, bi-metal blades for cutting bolts and pipes, and wood-cutting blades for making specialized cuts. You can even attach triangular-shaped pads that hold adhesive-backed sandpaper. Replacing worn out blades is easy and relatively inexpensive, which makes for cost-effective ownership. Oscillating tool kits are also available complete with blades, pads and other accessories to tackle most projects.
