Here’s How to Build an Outdoor Golf Game

Instructions

For this project, we’re using plywood and artificial turf to create a launch pad and landing pad. The landing pad will have holes so you can play for points. How much better can it get?First, you will want to lay out the turf tiles in a 2’x3’ tile grid. Start by locking the tiles together using the grid system. Once you’ve connected the grids, map out the entire turf area on the plywood and cut to size.

Next, mark and cut circles into the plywood. We went with five holes to give us a better chance at hitting a hole-in-one! We have (1) 6" hole in the center and (4) 4” holes towards the corners.

After drawing circles on the plywood, use a jigsaw or hole saw to make your cuts. If you are using a jigsaw, make sure to drill a pilot hole in each circle. This will allow an opening for the jigsaw blade to easily cut out the circles.

Next, use the plywood as a template to spray paint the circles. This will help as a visual for when you cut circles on the artificial turf. 

Using the utility knife, trace along the spray-painted circles to remove the turf.  

From there, transfer the artificial grass to a piece of plywood for a nice, stable base, and fasten it to the plywood using 1-¼” screws.

Flip the plywood over so the grass is facing the ground. Using a jigsaw cut out the turf gridlock within the circles. You’re almost done! Just angle the board with another piece of plywood and attach an exterior hinge for easy storage. 

Optional: To spruce up the final product, add trim around the outside border and finish with stain. You can make trim using 3/4” plywood. Rip it into 1-½” strips on your table saw. Next, give them a light sand and stain them with your favourite stain colour.  For the launch pad, repeat the first steps and create a pad as big as you like. We used two of the turf tiles to create a 1'x2' rectangle. Then, cut the ¾ plywood to fit, fasten turf to the plywood and add the trim.
