BBQ Fuel and Fire Starters

Here’s How to Keep Your Grill Fueled Up & Flavourful Throughout the Season

Running out of fuel or wood flavouring will put a damper on your BBQ as quick as any rainstorm. Depending on your type of grill, you’ll want to have at least a two-week supply on hand. If you have a propane grill that means having at least one extra propane tank on hand. For charcoal grills you can choose between charcoal briquets and lump charcoal. Briquets produce long-lasting heat and are ideal for low and slow cooking. Lump charcoal burns hotter and is great for fast, easy cooking. Remember to pick up some charcoal starter too. Cube and liquid formats both work well, but you can also find mess-free electric fire starters.

If you have a pellet grill you’ll want to keep several bags of wood pellets stored safely in a dry place. Popular flavours include apple wood pellets, cherry wood pellets, maple wood pellets and more. Different smoker pellet flavours are suitable for different types of meat, so stock up accordingly. You can also find a wide variety of wood chips for use in wood-fired grills, charcoal grills and fire pits. Mesquite wood chips and hickory wood chips are perennial favourites. Cedar or maple planks can also add nice flavouring to fish, veggies and other grill fare.
