Save Time & Money with DIY Plumbing Repairs

Plumbing repairs can be costly, but not all fixes require a professional plumber. There are multiple DIY repairs you can do if you have the right plumbing tools and materials. Every homeowner encounters a running toilet. If jiggling the handle won’t work, it can usually be corrected with a new toilet flapper and replacement fill valve. A clogged toilet is even more problematic. A toilet plunger can relieve minor blockages, but don’t give up if that doesn’t work. A plumbing snake is easy to operate and can push through even the toughest of clogs. A leaky faucet can be addressed with simple hand tools and a faucet repair kit.

A simple hose end cap can often fix a leaking water heater. For water lines leaking at the joint you’ll need plumber’s tape, plumber’s putty and a section of flexible tubing. For tools an adjustable wrench and slip joint pliers should do the trick. You can even remove a stuck cleanout plug to access clogged drains. There’s a bit more involved, but with a hacksaw and two pipe wrenches you should be up to the task.
