Perkins Home Building Centre was founded in 1936 by Howard Perkins as H.L. Perkins Co. Ltd. and became affectionately known as "Perkins Lumber".
Howard helped to develop North Gower and its surrounding community. He first focused his business on supplying house and barn construction. Then in 1962, Howard constructed a workshop where he built his own line of wooden doors and windows. The workshop was later retooled to support other areas of the business. The supply of lumber and building materials once again became the company's main focus. Howard passed away in 1982, but there are still several members of the community who stop by the store and share fond memories about him.
In the early 1980's, Howard's son Lyle grew the company's reputation for having an excellent quality of Western Red Cedar for incredibly low prices. This reputation still remains strong today. Lyle followed in Howard's footsteps by becoming involved in several community associations. He supports rural community groups even to this day.
In April of 2011, Lyle and his son Mark steered the company in an entirely new direction. Perkins Lumber began flying a new banner over its doors and became known as "Perkins Home Building Centre". This partnership has strengthened the company's ability to provide high quality products at low prices.
When you enter the store today, you will find a level of customer service that is scarce in other building material stores. The staff at Perkins Home Building Centre are knowledgeable and professional. They are dedicated to helping you find the right lumber and building materials that suit your project and budget.
