Hardware & Fasteners

Get the Right Type of Fasteners & Hardware for Your Projects & Repairs.

Any building project requires using the right type of fastener for the material and task at hand. Bolts with a nut and washer are used to hold objects together if the holes are unthreaded. U bolts are versatile fasteners than can be used to hold various sizes of pipe, plumbing and electrical conduit. Eye bolts offer a secure way to hang objects from the ceiling, but can also be used for attaching wire, planks, and lighter structural loads. For heavier loads you’ll want to use lag bolts, which have a much higher shear strength. Carriage bolts are self-locking and well suited to dock, deck, and outdoor furniture construction. Toggle bolts are ideal for inserting into hollow walls as they expand on the back side and lock into place once tightened down. There are also many types of temporary fasteners to hold items in place while you work including bench vices, C-clamps, F-clamps, and spring clamps.

Threaded screws provide a strong grip and are easy to remove, whereas nails are more permanent but also more likely to bend or break. Machine screws are available in steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, and nylon, and are ideal for fastening together metal parts. Framing nails are often used for projects that require a wood frame, whereas brad nails and finishing nails have a thinner shank and are less likely to split thinner wood.
