Find the Right Trim & Mouldings for Your Home

The trim and mouldings in your home are the edging strips you see around doors, windows, walls, and ceilings. Updating them is a quick and cost-effective way to refresh your interior décor. This can be done by changing the paint colour, stripping away old paint to expose the natural wood, or swapping in new trim and mouldings. You can even create unique trim and moulding treatments for different rooms in your home.

Crown moulding connects the walls and ceiling and tends to have smooth-flowing design elements. Baseboards are the wooden trim that hides the area where the wall meets the floor. If your baseboards are thin, you can add visual depth by attaching a quarter round moulding to the bottom and painting everything the same colour. Chair rails appear between the baseboards and crown moulding, usually about one-third of the way up the wall. These horizontal strips add a pleasing sense of proportion to the room, especially when enhanced with wainscot panels underneath. Casings refer to the mouldings around window and door frames. Decorative door casings can highlight your home’s entryway, while plain window casings can help to create a clean, modern look.
